Once again I went on a sleepless adventure. This time we had 4 days to spend out of town. We decided to go East and hit Utah, which after California, is my favorite state. Which is something 99% of my non-photographer friends don’t understand, but you’d have to visit it and see the beauty. I must mention, the city of Moab is a gold mine if you like photography – so many places in that surrounding area, its incredible.
We left Sacramento at 3am friday morning. I drove straight through California, Nevada, and finally arrived in Utah at 6 in the afternoon. We had to rush to try to make it by sunset, and as you can see in the video (see below, it was not an easy hike.
Once we got there and shot sunset, we sat and waited two hours for night to fall. Unfortunately the sky was cloudy and we were not able to get any milky way shots at that location, however we did have lots of fun with Delicate Arch itself.
We rented a room and slept a couple of hours before we took off to our next adventure, Delicate arch, and Dead Horse Canyon. That place was immense!
Once again, we shot sunset and sat around waiting for the milkyway. This time, we got lucky… we got to see the milkyway…
We got up early again and hit the road. As you can see we we spent a lot of time behind the wheel. Its something I don’t take for granted though. Even if I am just driving by, I make sure to appreciate what I am experiencing as I drive through a beautiful place.
We decided to take the eastern Sierras back home, and that is when we decided to visit a cool place call Mobius Arch. The problem was that it was a new moon and that means that there is no light outside, its pitch black. So we ended up walking around in the pitch black looking for a rock we had never seen in the middle of the desert. Eventually, after getting lost, we found the Rock. It was an amazing sight to see. I couldn’t believe how well mother nature can carve some awesome sculptures.
We thought we were done, we had driven so much. But we realized we still had one more place to see. We wanted to visit a shack along the highway. It was freezing cold outside, but we managed to stay and get some shots.
We got back to sacramento at around 7 in the morning; it was exhausting, it took a long time, but we made it. I can’t wait for the next adventure.
